just go read/watch josei?
also like i'm not a big fan of people saying "just go read shoujo" in response to anime fans complaining about misogyny in anime, because like don't get me wrong shoujo is great, i've had a good time with it, but i'm not sure if the hyper-feminine girl genre that focuses on romance should be like the only anime female anime fans are expected to watch. that and it low key feels like it's reinventing the pink aisle.
#people keep forgetting that josei manga exist#and they're great#anime#manga#i love seinen and josei#demographics#not all shoujo series are romance focused#there is a fuckton of misogyny in shoujo too#and low to no misogyny shonen series#with female protagonists even#and mostly female casts#actually exist

It's a scientific fact that Doom would be cooler if Doomguy was a woman. You wouldn't have to change anything else. Just make it about a lady shooting demons. You could even still call her Doomguy.
#Doom#every like modern indie gzdoom game has a female protagonist now#but imagine the cultural impact of Doom having a female protagonist in the 90s#it defined the genre#if even half of the Doom clones had you playing as a woman...#IMAGINE A LADY DUKE NUKEM!?!?!?

#persona 3#p3 fanart#makoto yuki#minato arisato#junpei yori#yukari takeba#i think their trio dynamic is the most overlook in any game#we talk about makoto in relation to anyone else but i always find it fascinating how#despite being the bro character. junpei initially resents makoto and actively has to work towards understanding him#as opposed to other bro characters who immediately love the protagonist#and i love how yukari learns to open up to him even through her own trust issues AND his aloof general attitude#to the point she behaves how she does in the answer (iykyk)#which is in my opinion (and like no one elses lol) one of the most compelling characterizations in a female character in persona#ok rants over. i just love these guys and i think they are sadly underappreciated#art#fanart#spin draws

okay, bc i have seen this argument alot now (and it also seems to be the view point of aonuma himself..) is that "zelda cant do everything link does bc whats the point then"
and i take personal offense on that bc its a stupid argument (in. my. very. personal. opinion.- not judging people for liking it. its a ME thing)
whats the point? its that its her. its still a different character, different in story, background, personality, but i WANT to play zelda and she can do everything link does, why does she have to be so restricted and be bend over backwards to find some new way to make her 'useful' when link gets to do basically everything no questions asked (the only thing thats hers is like .. sealing power and sacrificial maiden, which i find a little underwhelming to say the least), if theres no point to it why are there always modders that model swap link with someone else, and in that case it has even less impact bc its an artificial model swap with no changes to the story (which can and should still be different when its the vanilla game with a different protagonist... its still a different character), clearly theres joy in just the model being a different one- and that isnt even to mention the story possibilities, since, again, its stil a different character
if we ever (never ... i know who we are talking about here) get to play as ganondorf i want to him to be just as versatile and active as link is, if we got a point and click adventure game for him instead bc 'whats the point' id be disappointed too- you can find any sort of excuse/explanation for zelda to be singled out but the fact remains it tracks with how female characters are often treated, and that hits a very sore spot for me
i guess i am unfortunately one of those annoying people that want to see female characters be treated exactly the same as male characters, possibly bc i am myself afab but identify as agender and have a deeply personal dislike for anything 'traditional' feminine bc i cannot and never will be able to truly live as myself in real life, it influences all of my work, my work is as just as much as my opinion on this, very personal
and in line with my point about modding, i see theres joy in just beign able to play as her even if its like this, i get that, i also get it for the creative aspect (though that mechanic worries me even more for the future bc it really seems to be the path now that -freedom = good, linear anything = bad-) it is a different idea and its not like i cant see that value- im not trying be "right" either, just bc i have that opinion doesnt mean i need everyone to agree, its a very personal thing, if you like it good for you! not for me though, and i think both of that is equally valid
i just personally wish she was allowed to be just like link, fight just like him but be different bc its still her and not him in the end- to be physically/playstyle like jsut like him, but you know ... as her, i dont think shed stop being zelda if she could wield a sword just like him
i dont really know how to get my point/feelings across, i dont want to step too much into personal stuff nor spam people with something that ultimately doesnt interest me alot, im just saddened by it really
(EDIT: bc i forgot to add this on here again; this isnt as much of a problem as it might sound like here, just the main topic i wanted to talk about; why im so uninterested in it is MAINLY bc i dont trust them to write anything interesting/care about lore anymore after totk, im always on the more pessimistic side that thinks its most likely worse than id hope and i know even the past games arent perfect or super interestingly written, but now its much more just a general distrust, together with everything like the price ... im just much less hopeful and cant get excited until i see more of it, like im waiting for the game to get out and reveal that its just as much of a mess and money i regret spending- kind of fear)
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#person that send an ask about this in just as i was writing this- this isnt about you- i promise you#its soemthing thats been stirring in my mind since yesterday#and seeing so many of those comments- and even aonuma himself say it#just strikes a very very personal sore spot#also to that one commenter on a different post-#no- wanting female characters being allowed to wield a sword is not “badass female character mysogyni” (idk how to spell that rn)#the hollywood badass female character thing is annoying but thats bc-#its a super model woman (bc shes ALLOWED TO BE FEMININE you KNOW) fight people in high heels- bc you can be feminie AND badass-#and then does a cringy one liner 'what you thoguht a FEMALE couldnt kick your teeth in'#which comes with alot more baggage of tropes and hollywood etc etc#i long for the 'women are jsut as capable as men' in a very agender way#why do you think i intentionally design alot of female characters non tradtionally feminie or masculine#again this is a very pseronal thing to me#BUT i do think it IS questionable that its her that isnt allowed to fight with a sword#like i dont think thats much of my personal dislike there- but a valid thing to point out no matter the explanations you can come up with#anyway- i dont hate it- but its not for me- i dont want to talk much about it#i hope you can excuse me not answering the asks i got related to this- id just repeat myself#(i guess i should be glad that its the top down one that gets her as the protagonist-)#(i dont think i want to live through seeing her be animated like the typically girly feminine butt wiggle in your face tehehe)#(the botw/totk cutscnes were enough of that for me PERSONALLY)#i dont know how many times i have to say its my very biased personally personal opinion and no a judging of others#to make it clear that no one has to agree with me and i dont want to be convinced of the other opinions of this

im so fucking sick of seeing jude depicted as a thin ass woman like NO.
it's stated multiple times through out the books that not only is she muscular because of all her swordfighting training but she also doesn't have that thin frame and that is exactly what sets her apart from the fae (and part of what makes her beautiful to cardan like hellooooo?). she has curves and muscle and scars. all of that is so so so important to her character.
#i dont even know why i feel the need to say this but there's OBVIOUSLY nothing wrong with being thin#and people are allowed to have their own headcanons and to imagine a character however they like#but i feel like since she's such a mold-breaking character (if you know what i mean)#we all appreciate her for her fighting skills and strategy and her bloodlust#but can a female character stray from the mold just a certain amount before it becomes too much?#before people don't find her attractive anymore?#why does she have to have either a personality that's not the stereotype of female fantasy protagonist#or a body that doesn't fit those standards?#anywayssss went on a little rant there#jude duarte#tfota#jurdan#the folk of the air#the cruel prince#the wicked king#the queen of nothing#my post >:)

A complete list of books with female protagonists:
Pride and Prejudice
The Hunger Games
The Locked Tomb series
The Haunting of Hill House
Wonder Woman comics
#m.txt#this is a joke#I think the punchline is that the world of media with female protagonists is so large and so diverse#that even attempting a list of them is gonna end up with a lot of very generic stuff#even if you just want sci-fi with female protagonists or fantasy with female protagonists that’s still so big you know#there’s so so so so so so much. please just read something

i'm getting towards the end of the skypeia arc, & i'd like to say just how much i adore the way the female strawhats have been treated.
just... every aspect of how the way their characters have been previously contextualized influences the story-line is treated with a masterful amount of consideration. we're given so many layers to both of them that enrich not only their characters specifically, but the arc, and the one piece world as a whole. without nami & robin having their specific skills, and their specific values, without those being built upon, the story would have come to a halt.
you could not have skypeia without nami & robin being who they are as individuals. not just because they never would've gotten there without nami, but also because the way these women think is itself foundational to the machinations of the arc as a whole.
to be totally upfront, if you think any other strawhats were more central to the skypeia arc than nami & robin were you are full-on fucking lying to yourself.
#obligatory disclaimer that i’m aware luffy is the protagonist & a lot of interesting stuff is explored w him. this isn’t abt him though.#part of me wonders if this is an aspect of why people will write off this arc sometimes tbh... like that & the political themes.#but yeah anyway i get why people say that for all there are 100% misogynistic tendencies in oda's writing & character design#it is very very hard to say that he as an individual is an ideological misogynist. like the level of care he puts into his female cast mem#-ers generally speaking & how he approaches what existing as a multi-dimensional individual would look like in their specific contexts is#like... in a lot of ways still something that is unprecedented across all forms of media.#but also not the point but anyone who says nami in particular doesnt get real fights/is unskilled um... no you're wrong read her fight in#alabasta & then all of skypeia.#like in alabasta she takes on arguably a stronger opponent than sanji when considering the structuring of BW. not only that but she does s#with a weapon she has never used before while actively reading the instruction manual. and she WINS. she wins based on sheer intellect &#the ability to utilize skills the audience already knows she has. the pre-existing basic fighting skills she's introduced with are elabora#-ed upon by incorporating her skill w navigation. same with the way her cunning is used in skypeia to cover her lack of sheer brute. &#the best part about it is she's fucking tough in a way that makes sense! she isn't strong/weak just for the sake of positioning her as such#it is thoughtful & it strengthens her as a character rather than just like giving the power-scaler types smth to mindlessly chew on.#like do i wish nami got to fight more & take a more active role in that regard even if i don't think she needs to be a fighter in the same#sense as the monster trio? yes absolutely. i'm guessing this is going to be smth that bothers me potentially even more with robin.#but that does not mean her fights are not masterfully written when she gets them or that she isn't tough as a bag of nails.#respect my darling woman or die.#skypeia#nico robin#nami#grey's one piece tag

The urge to write a 7 and 1/2 page essay on why engaging with the text and not just grabbing easy fanon traits for characters is important to both identifying our personal biases and strengthening our media literacy, and why it will actually make doing things like drawing fan art and writing fanfic way more fun is so strong but like. It's 100 fucking degrees out and I'm not getting paid for this.
#something something the state of the current pop book industry#this isn't even like fully abt the Batfam but it is a particularly egregious example#bg3 fans also do this a lot wrt characters like Wyll and Laezel#and Astarion obv.#ummmm#horror fans tend to do this with female protagonists#weirdly I feel like it's not as bad with a lot of anime cuz the characters are often#as deep as a thimble? so you kind of have to editorialize a little#anyway I'm just rambling in the tags it's really fucking hot#bitch i might wing#delete l8r

We won’t learn exactly how osha and Mae became split, we won’t see osha become a fully realised dark sider using all her abilities including the witch possession. We won’t see mae gain her memories while being in custody of the Jedi and develop further from there
#the acolyte#osha aniseya#osha the acolyte#mae aniseya#mae and osha#oshamir#a show shouldn’t have to be perfect for it to be renewed#I’ve noticed how people treat protagonists especially female black ones lol#main characters are meant to develop and they didn’t even give them a chance#season 1 is never the peak of a main character

For the FNAF 2 movie, I wish they’d shift the main character to be Vanessa and have Mike be the side character cause it feels like we should be following Vanessa now because she’s so pivotal to the William story as opposed to Mike. Because by the end of the FNAF 1 movie, Mike and Abby both seem in a position where they’re kind of satisfied with where they are and have had their character arc, relationship repaired and situation stable and all that (especially in the movie novel since mike had a construction job by the scene in Vanessa’s hospital room). Their only loose end is Garrett, who Mike kind of accepts that he needs to let go and focus on Abby (and who is kind of avenged by his killer dying) and Jane. Who isn’t exactly the most important character.
Meanwhile, it feels like Vanessa has more backstory and character and motivation to explore than ever before. Especially because Mike doesn’t have the same motivations as in the games because he’s not related to William in any way so he has no reason to keep chasing him down but Vanessa does.
Like it feels that with Mike protag, the FNAF 2 movie is only gonna have him be there to follow Vanessa’s plot.
#and i know that they’re never gonna do Vanessa protag cause they’d lose audience from having a female protagonist :((#which fucking sucks#i do really hope they do the opening scene as vanessa’s nightmares during her coma to set up the tone and plot of the whole movie#since we know there’s gonna be flashbacks#(there’s no reason to spend all the money casting matthew lillard if he’s not even gonna show his face)#anyways that’s my vanessa ramble of the day#fnaf vanessa#vanessa shelly#vanessa afton#fnaf movie#five nights at freddy's

Thinking about how people assuming Seth isn't into men is also a big reason why Osiris is an idiot, and Ra called Osiris out on that line of thinking in S02E78. In fact, she calls him, "Arrogant, foolish Osiris" (among other things) for this. Like that just happened in canon and I guess folks slept through that episode because people keep insisting he only loves Nephthys/is straight/can't like men.
Like people say "Seth isn't gay" and I think that's fair, but I don't think he's het, either. He doesn't evince interest in women generally. Osiris assumes Seth does because Osiris doesn't understand love. To him, Seth must be into goddesses solely because they can have babies.
Osiris does not comprehend that it isn't Nephthys' gender that attracts Seth to her: it is herself as a person. Osiris has no regard for that. He does not fathom Seth as a complex person with agency. To Osiris, "to love someone is to expect something from them." (S01E49). He catalogues people into capabilities: if I could provide the same things for Seth, Seth would love me. This disregards any relationship Seth might have with Osiris, Nephthys, or anyone else. He stole Seth's seed for who knows how many years. He removes Seth's agency in many ways.
This is a really common romance trope with the obsessive non-partner: "I'm better looking, I can provide more/the same, why do you love [love interest] and not me?"
Because the person they're pursuing has agency and love is complicated. This thinking ignores that. It treats people as goals to be reached or objects to be won.
Osiris sees no issue with this, despite his alleged wisdom, because "love" as he understands it, is "a selfish emotion that feeds on personal gain." (S01E49). Osiris is being selfish, and he'll do whatever he has to, destroy whoever and whatever he needs to, in order to achieve the object of his desire that is Seth. As Ra says, Osiris is "a rotting fruit" who "rot[s] those around" him. (S02E78).
So far as we can tell, Seth isn't in love with women generally. The only other woman to whom he potentially showed any sexual advances was maybe Isis? (Seth to Isis, "I had asked you to sleep with me." S01E39). But we don't actually know how he framed that offer/request when he tried to get her to join him in revenge, let alone if he actually wanted to sleep with her or just wanted to get revenge on Nephthys and/or Osiris, or if he just convinced himself that's what he was asking Isis to do and that's part of why Isis rejected him. We do know he's in love with Nephthys (S01E49). Or was in the past. Lately, he cares for Horus. I would argue he's demi-bisexual or demi-pansexual, but also isn't a person who's into labels. Not everyone is. Queerness is a spectrum.
Yes, he calls relations between male humans disgusting in a spur of the moment thought in S02E36, and that's sort of it. Seth generally thinks ill of humans, and he's not given to think kindly of Horus at the time, either. That's also not definitive. He changes (S02E70). He also would not be the first person in existence to internalize bigotry that would possibly target himself. Plenty of marginalized people are/act bigoted against their own people/themselves. At the time, Seth was also ill and trapped in a stronghold of people who hate him, safe on the kindness of humans. There are so many reasons that he might respond weirdly or not in a way that reflects his entire state of mind about his own wants. No one was asking him, "Are you gay?" or even "Would you date and/or fuck a guy if you had a chance?" Horus was carrying on a facade to fool Hanekate in a complex situation that Seth hated for many reasons, and Seth was understandably shocked.
I don't think he likes men generally. I think his body reacts to things (Osiris, Foreign God), as bodies tend to, which doesn't necessarily mean anything about his sexuality. But his being into Nephthys also kind of says nothing about his wants. He wants Nephthys. The person. Not a gender. His lack of being into a specific gender generally does not mean he solely likes women or cannot be into men or must be forced into it or something. He loves people on an individual level.
When he rejects Osiris, it's not because Osiris is male, but because Seth cares platonically for Osiris solely as a brother and monarch.
Osiris to Seth in S01E41: "What am I... ...to you? Am I just the king that rules over the land that you protect? Am I just your brother born from the same womb? What about besides that? Have you ever even thought of me as something more?"
Seth: "Why do you need to be more than that?"
Ra to Osiris in S02E78, "You think that Seth turns away from you because you are also a male god? And you think Seth desires female gods because of their power of creation? . . . If that is the conclusion you have come to, then it is proof that you are already breaking down."
It's all right there. It didn't need to be that overt because you can see it in the rest of the story, too, but the overtness is now there. Clear as day. Osiris' line of thinking about Seth's affections is wrong. And to imitate that is foolish.
It's Seth's deep love for individuals that allows him to open his heart to Horus (S02E70). Osiris and even Nephthys do not see Seth for who he is. Horus does. He refuses to forget. And that's why Seth cares for him, because it's Seth's deepest wish (S01E40-1).
In sum, assuming Seth loves Nephthys because she's a woman and this is the end-all statement about his sexuality/interests will get Ra to laugh at you just like she laughed at Osiris for assuming basically the same thing.
(Also assuming all protagonists and/or love interests in boys love stories have to be gay to have relationships with other men is really weird. Plenty of protagonists are bisexual, pansexual, undeclared, or questioning)

i will always support teenage girls who loudly express their distaste for makeup over those who claim it’s rude to girls who like makeup . we are not at a point in our society or cultural consciousness where we’re past the concept that women need makeup to be attractive, and the teenage girls going against that conception are in the right whether they’re rude about it or not
#my post#same thing when people talk about how “it’s nice to have a female protagonist who likes feminine things instead of being edgy and hating it#<- direct quote from my older sister.#as if female protagonists who are even the slightest bit a tomboy don’t get bashed and hated on constantly#it’s not revolutionary to have a feminine protagonist. it’s not revolutionary to wear makeup. come on

He looks so different with glasses 😂 did not recognize him at first
terribly funny how much more generic he can get with a thick frame of raybans like ive always believed the whole glasses as a disguise would never work irl but i got punked so hard that when i first saw him in glasses i was like "oh another man" glossed over him then felt the same sensation as when i forget to buy milk at the store, swiped back, scrutinised this for far longer than im comfortable admitting publicly and went "oh my god THATS MY MAN GIRL WHAT ARE YOU DOING"
#ask#i went “maffhew where the hell have you been loca”#she is but a beautiful female protagonist “shackled” by a thick pair of glasses#to me she is even more beautiful with the glasses#but also just another man#ive specifically seen this type of man in so many fucking places...#the fruity english teacher that also teaches the creative writing course because he genuinely enjoys spoken word#the one where you walk into his class see the open class layout... look up at him... look at his fit and go#huh... itd be rude to ask if he has a husband but... you know...#the class where you can tell hes in because you can smell his maple syrup candle from the courtyard#despite there being a whole gym between you and the building hes in because his door is always open and anytime the building door opens#you smell a whole wiff of autumn... it is in fact summer... and always summer where you are...#he doesnt talk about his lovelife at all doesnt even mention anything about it#but everyones curious but hes cool and you dont want to make him uncomfortable so you dont ask but you know you know?#its why you squeal in glee when he shows up to open mic night at the blackbox in the 300 building with his husband in tow because once again#he adores spoken word and gave extra credit to anyone who preformed and he wants to support his students#and hes just so smiley and giggly all night because he finally gets to be with his secret husband and its so perfect and theyre so perfect#and he also your dad because you have daddy issues and having a male figure in your life whos queer and supports you is so important-#you know what!! i think we know a little too much about each other i will stop now!!!! you get the idea!!!!!
